Sport Medicine Doctor, Dr. John Bowman

John is the owner and Medical Director of the Collingwood Sport Medicine and Rehabilitation Centre.  He has a Diploma in Sport Medicine and is a member of the Canadian Academy of Sport and Exercise Medicine.  He is certified by the Society of Orthopedic Medicine of  Great Britain and has special training in injection therapies.





Helen Bull

M.C.P.A., A.F.C.I. Cert., Registered Physiotherapist, Cranio-Sacral Therapy

Helen graduated from the University of Toronto with a Diploma in Physical & Occupational Therapy in 1967. Since graduating she has been a life-long learner focusing on Manual therapy, Orthopaedic and Sport Medicine, Foot & Lower limb biomechanics, Cranio-Sacral Therapy, and women’s health issues.  She is fully certified with the Acupuncture Foundation Institute of Canada, in affiliation with the University of Toronto to perform Acupuncture.  She is certified to perform biomechanical foot assessments and to prescribe customized orthotics. She loves endurance hiking, cycling, kayaking, fitness training, skiing and gardening.  Her pride is in her five grandchildren who give her balance.

 

Mark Eagleson

M.S.PT., Hons. B.Kin., Registered Physiotherapist, Certified Kinesiologist

Mark graduated from McMaster University with his Bachelor of Kinesiology in 2001.  He then attended Husson College in Bangor, Maine where he attained his Masters in Physical Therapy. Mark has recently returned from working in Connecticut during which time he completed his coursework for his Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Mark has worked with athletes competing at various levels and has worked with patients who have suffered injuries from workplace or motor vehicle accidents. Mark is an avid skier having competed with the Southern Ontario Ski team for three years. He continues to be active in the outdoors playing soccer, Ultimate Frisbee, rock climbing, kayaking, skiing and snowshoeing.


Doug Freer

Upon graduation from UWO in 1973, Doug moved to Barrie to work as a physio at Royal Victoria Hospital.  In the fall of 1974, he began working part-time in an OHIP private practice, which he purchased in 1978.  Since that time, he has had offices in Barrie, Toronto, Stroud and Collingwood.  In 2004 he began working with Dr. Bowman at the Collingwood Sport Medicine and Rehabilitation Centre.  Doug’s expertise is in chronic musculoskeletal injuries.  He has specialization certificates in Manual Therapy, Manipulation Therapy, Anatomical Acupuncture and IMS Acupuncture.  He started his sports physiotherapy specialization in 1974 working as a trainer for the Jr. B. Barrie Colts.  He has been selected by his peers to be Chief Therapist at 3 World Student Games and the 2004 Paralympics in Athens.  He has also been selected as a therapist for 4 Winter Olympics including Vancouver 2010, 2 Paralympics and Pan-American games.  Doug continues to lecture at the University of Toronto and teach acupuncture and manual therapy courses across Canada. He lives in Collingwood and enjoys both summer and winter activities.

 

Rachel Gosselin

B.Sc., RMT

Rachel is a graduate of Trent University and the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy.  She is a registered massage therapist, currently practicing at Collingwood Sport Medicine and Scandinave Spa Blue Mountain.  Collingwood, where she lives with her husband and two daughters, has been home since 1998. Rachel loves an active lifestyle and participates in a variety of recreational activities including snowshoeing , hiking, skiing, cycling, and yoga.

 

Elisa Harrison

H.B.Sc. (Kinesiology), PCP, C Ped Tech (C), C Ped (C), Certified Pedorthist

Elisa graduated from the University of Waterloo with an Honours Science degree in Kinesiology in 2000.  She then attended the University of Western Ontario where she obtained her Professional Certificate of Pedorthics.  Elisa is a part of Pedorthic Services, a group of Certified Pedorthists that maintain their own local lab to fabricate orthotic devices rather than sending them to a remotely located facility.  This provides for quicker turn-around time and also means that adjustments or modifications to the orthotics can be easily made.  Elisa is able to make most adjustments immediately, while you wait, as she has all of the necessary equipment on site.  In her spare time, Elisa enjoys playing ultimate Frisbee, making jewellery and playing with her two young boys.

Ron Herman

B.P.H.E., B.Sc. (P.T.), M.C.P.A. Registered Physiotherapist

Ron graduated from Queen’s University with a Bachelor of Physical and Health Education in 1992 and a Bachelor of Science (Physical Therapy) in 1994.  He is a Registered Physiotherapist with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario since 1994 and has practiced on orthopedics in private clinic settings in Cambridge, Toronto and since 1999 with Collingwood Sport Medicine and Rehabilitation Centre.  Ron enjoys working with athletes of all levels and has continuing education courses in Fit-For-Golf and myofascial release techniques.  He is also the manager of physiotherapy services at the clinic.  Ron was a C.I.A.U. Football All-Canadian in 1991 and was drafted by the CFL’s Edmonton Eskimos.  Ron and his family have lived in Collingwood since 1999.  He, his wife and their 6 children enjoy living in the area and take advantage of the numerous outdoor activities it has to offer.

 

Aaron Johnson

B.Sc. (P.T.), FCAMT, CAFCI, M.C.P.A., Dip. Manipulative Physiotherapy, Registered Physiotherapist

Aaron graduated from the Physiotherapy Program at the University of Western Ontario in 1997.  Since that time, Aaron has completed a Diploma of Advanced Manual and Manipulative Physiotherapy.  He has also completed his certification in acupuncture with the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada.  Aaron has been active in post-graduate education and is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Therapy. He is also an instructor for the Orthopaedic Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association.  Aaron enjoys an active lifestyle and likes to spend his free time working out, playing tennis, golfing and fishing.

 

Gordon McFarlane

Gordon, a Registered Massage Therapist, graduated from the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy in 2005 after completing a degree in Kinesiology at Laurentian University. He currently divides his time between Collingwood Sport Medicine and a physiotherapy clinic in Markham.

In addition to working for 7 years in top physiotherapy clinics, Gordon has been a ski and mountain bike coach and holds CSCF level 2, CSIA level 2, and NCCP level 2 . Gordon raced with the National Ski Academy, competes in Adventure races, and is a Master Expert mountain biker.

Gordon brings a fresh perspective to Collingwood Sport Medicine as he integrates his previous clinical and athletic experiences to provide a bio-mechanical approach to treatment.

 

Judy McLenaghan

HON. B.A. P.H.E., Affiliate member Ontario Kinesiology Assoc., CFC.

Judy graduated from the University of Western Ontario with an Honours B.A. in Physical and Health Education.  She has a wealth of experience in hospital and clinic based therapy programs and enjoys the multi-disciplinary environment.  She has been an integral team member at the Collingwood Sport Medicine and Rehabilitation Centre since 1997.  Researching, teaching and monitoring therapeutic exercises helps her and the client develop respect and understanding for the long-term effect specific exercises provide in managing pain and improving body and joint function. Inspiration gained from clients with varying injuries, who strive to attain their goals has motivated Judy to pursue relevant courses that provide practical and theoretical knowledge of approaches in therapeutic exercises.

 

Julie Moss-Kujala

B.Sc. (P.T.), M.C.P.A., Registered Physiotherapist

Julie first attended Queen’s University in the Life Science program in 1992 and went on to complete the Bachelor of Science (Physical Therapy) at the University of Western Ontario in 1997.  She has been a Registered Physiotherapist since 1997 and has worked in an orthopedic and sports medicine setting in both Toronto and Collingwood.  Julie has been trained in acupuncture since 1997 and has a wide range of skills for treating a variety of joint and soft tissue injuries in the general and athletic population.  Julie lives in Collingwood with her husband and 3 children and enjoys an active lifestyle in the fabulous outdoors of our surrounding area.  She is a strong believer in exercise and feels that we should all have physical goals and be working towards a personal best, whatever it may be.


Paul Phillips

R.M.T. Registered Massage Therapist

Paul is a Registered Massage Therapist and he is currently working on becoming a Sport Massage Therapist as well.  Presently, he practices out of the Collingwood Sport Medicine and Rehabilitation Centre and Le Scandinave Spa. For the past couple of years he has called Collingwood home with his wife and 3 children. He had the privileged of working in the Cayman Islands for seven years at a Ritz-Carlton and at a World Gym Fitness Centre.  In the Caymans he had the opportunity to massage for the Cayman Islands Swim Team, Cayman Islands Triathlon Association, Outback Tennis Champions Series and Cayman Islands Cadet Corps Marathon.

 

Laura Powers

M.PT., B.PHE

Laura completed her Master of Physiotherapy from Curtin University in Perth, Australia in 2010. She also has a Bachelor of Physical Health and Education from the University of Toronto and prior to this she attended Boston College for 2 years. She has extensive experience in the fitness industry doing personal and group training and has her level 1 acupuncture certification with the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada.  She is also a certified Pelvic Health physiotherapist.

While at Boston College and University of Toronto, Laura competed on the varsity volleyball team, from which she learnt the true value of working hard to achieve goals and the importance of exercise and physical activity. Laura grew up in Collingwood and still calls it home. She loves mountain biking, road riding, skiing, yoga, and anything that takes her outdoors and gets her moving.

 

Dr. Todd Starr

DC, CSCS, ART®Doctor of Chiropractic, Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist, Active Release Techniques® Provider

Todd graduated from Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in 1998.  Since that time he has been actively involved in continuing his education, becoming full body certified in Active Release Technique?, earning the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist designation, and courses in rehabilitation, custom orthotics and bracing.  He has also taken several courses with Charles Poliquin, a world famous strength coach, who has rehabilitated and strengthened many NHL, NFL and Olympic athletes.  This well-rounded education allows Dr. Starr to use many tools to best help patients recover from acute pain and injuries, and prevent them from reoccurring.  He has a special interest in nutrition and supplementation, for health and disease prevention and athletic performance.

Tom Watt graduated from D’Arcy Lane Institute for Massage Therapy in 1997. Since this time he has completed many post graduate courses in manual therapy. Tom holds credentials in Active Release Techniques involving the spine, upper extremities and lower extremities. He is certified in Kinesiotaping and Joint mobilization. Tom is also an NSCA Certified Personal Trainer and NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. Adding to his credentials, Tom has also been trained in medical acupuncture since 2004, and has been a past assistant acupuncture instructor with McMaster University Contemporary Acupuncture program. Tom has been involved with many varsity and junior level athletic programs over the past several years working as a head therapist and strength coach. Tom has just finished his fourth year of Athletic Therapy completing his Health Science degree and is a certified Athletic Therapist. His strengths are in the integration of manual therapy and functional exercise prescription for a rapid return to activity. In his free time he enjoys time with his sons.
